The name Jivamukti means liberated while living. Each class focuses on a theme, which is supported by Sanskrit chanting, readings, references to scriptural texts, music, asana sequencing, yogic breathing practices, and the five tenets which make up a jivamukti class: Ahimsa (non violence), Bhakti (devotion), Dhyana (meditation), Nada yoga (sound listening, music, and chanting), and Scripture (the study of the ancient yoga teaching including Sanskrit).

PILATES: MAT CLASS
Pilates builds strength and flexibility, with an emphasis on lengthening the body and aligning the spine. Pilates focuses on the "powerhouse" region of the body which includes the muscles of the abdominals and the lower back. This focus on strengthening the core/powerhouse muscles and improving postural awareness are especially well indicated for the alleviation and prevention of back pain. The central element of Pilates is to create a fusion of mind and body, so that without thinking about it you will move with grace and balance.

Every class emphasizes the opening of the core tensions in the body by beginning at the tailbone and progressing through each area of the spine. Each class integrates the foundational principles of asana, anatomy, and yoga philosophy, which emphasizes the development of transcendent inner experience, which is called “svaroopa” by Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras. “tada drashtuh svaroope ‘vasthanam” The moment your mind becomes quiet, you will abide in the bliss of your own being (Sutra 1.3).

YIN YANG YOGA
Experience the benefits of a balanced practice of Yin and Yang energies. During the Yin portion of the practice, long-held floor poses are practiced to open the connective tissues of the body for more flexibility. This mindful approach cultivates Yin qualities such as acceptance, receptiveness, and stillness. Balancing poses and some Vinyasa Flow will follow to release Yang energy to strengthen and invigorate mind, body & soul. The class may include a short meditation.
