I spent yesterday afternoon working in my backyard. I pulled weeds, raked pine needles, trimmed bushes, moved a few things around and refilled the bird bath. It was a “mostly sunny” day and it felt good to dig about in the dirt and clean out the old stuff. So I got to musing about making room for new growth and how a warm sunny day is always around the corner, not matter how cold the winter may be.
Now of course the “cold winter” can really be the cold weather or it can be a metaphor for many of life’s trial and tribulations such as relationship upheaval, employment drama, family issues, financial woes. Or we may just dislike the cold-dark-rainy-dismal days. But the one certainty is that this too will change, the sun will shine again. In fact the sun is always shining… we just can’t always see it.
So I am going to get ready for new growth and sunshine by clearing out the overgrown old stuff in my yard, the pile of Christmas boxes in my garage, the junk in my junk drawer, and the fear that just drives me crazy. I invite you to join me in a bit of your own clutter busting, if you need help getting started, garage clearing begins at my house 2:30pm this Saturday. Please bring large green garbage bags.

Ah...spring cleaning. Love it.

There is a wonderful card by Susan Mrosek - it shows a man with tree limbs growing out of his head, and a pile of trimmed and stacked branches inside it - I think that's what it is, but I haven't seen it in awhile, so... Anyway the caption is "clearing out the dead wood, making room to dream." This post reminded me of that card. Time for spring cleaning in many ways, I guess.
